First Look - Bricks & Mortar, Valley View Gardens

Bold Ventures - Expansive Lands

We would like to warmly introduce Marie Bingham, the visionary property developer behind the innovative ‘Valley View Gardens,’ which proudly stands as the very first of her exciting development projects. Marie planned to relocate to the charming community of Woodingdean, Brighton, where she envisioned a vibrant life filled with inspiration and creativity. It was during their extensive search for the perfect property that Marie first conceived her transformative idea after viewing a particular house for sale that featured large, extensive landscapes. While gazing out the window, she could distinctly visualize a beautifully designed home that could be constructed at the bottom of the expansive land – and from that moment, the idea of development truly began to take shape in her mind. From this seed of an idea, the future brought about an even bolder venture when she made the decision to further expanded her ambitious plans and aquire two adjoining properties.

Vivid Visions & Heartfelt Aim

Pivotal Moment In Back-Land Development

With no prior experience in the complex field of property developing, but armed with a clear vision and an unwavering determination to create something unique and highly desirable within the vibrant community of Brighton, Marie embarked on an exciting journey with a heartfelt aim to leave a lasting legacy that would resonate with the residents for years to come. Marie reflects on this pivotal moment in her life, stating,

“I knew I could trust Alter Architects to fully interpret and bring to life what I was trying to achieve.”

Through a valued recommendation from a mutual contact, Alter Architects were commissioned by Marie to collaborate on this ambitious vision, believing that their innovative creative approach and shared vision would align perfectly with her aspirations. In her heart, she felt an undeniable connection with the team and realized it was indeed a perfect fit for the project.

“If it hadn’t been for ALTER it would have been a battle. They both believed in me. They knew it could happen. The design by ALTER of the houses was pivotal in obtaining planning permission.”

Homes That Talk To Each Other

Design by Alter Architects

When reviewing the overall site strategy for Valley View Gardens, it became abundantly clear that there were a number of site-specific challenges that needed to be addressed. We successfully managed to overcome these problems by designing a thoughtfully arranged series of dwellings that enabled clear access and the availability of much-needed amenity space.

“I would absolutely, recommend working with Alter Architects. I will definitely be working with them again as soon as I move on to my next project. To work with them again would be amazing.”

Simultaneously, we focused on addressing issues related to overlooking and defending the privacy of adjoining gardens through the innovative architectural form and the strategically shielded brick facades. These homes are characteristic of our signature style; while they present a cheerful and calm overall form, they also exude playfulness and dynamism through their carefully considered material conditions, featuring a lightness in color complemented by the spirited quality of the engaging ‘hit and miss’ brick cantilever facades.
