Ingeniously Evolution Sculpting The Landscape

New Eco-friendly Home Design

Ashley House, from the very outset, emerges as a captivating building that introduces a refreshing new street and town typology. The existing setting is characteristically typical of a charming colloquial village, featuring small, low-slung bungalows and houses adorned with classic pitched roofs. In such a self-evident and somewhat conventional environment, the house exhibits a rudimentary design that emphasizes both front and back access to vital amenity spaces and abundant natural light. Size was another significant concern due to the apparent lack of space for adequately sized bedrooms and recreational rooms.

Dynamic Designed House Accommodating Family Needs

The design brief was thoughtfully established to create a new build house that would accommodate the dynamic needs of a family of five, comprising a dedicated teacher, an innovative brand designer, and their three energetic young children. The distinctive shape and form of the building ingeniously evolve from orienting the main internal volumes and spaces towards key views that frame the stunning landscape vistas of the South Downs hills.

Expansive Views & Enriched Light

Punching Above Status-quo

This new design skillfully sculpts a series of elegantly folded planes that overlap both top and bottom, revealing a beautifully crafted timber-clad sculptural form. Punching through the timber skin, a collection of large windows emerges like eyes, peering into the surrounding wilderness; these frames gracefully dance across the sculptural mass of the building's façade while simultaneously providing generous light, expansive views, and visual interest to two key rooms. The folded nature of the ground floor forges expansive spaces that facilitate a seamless experience of openness and connectivity, enriching the interiors and complementing the exterior dining environments.
